We are able to set certain benchmarks in the medical industry, by offering well-formulated range of Tetracaine Eye drops.

They are used in numbing the eyes by blocking the nerve impulses that are used during the eradication of corneal foreign bodies, gonioscopy, for short corneal and conjunctival operations. Tetracaine 0.5 % Eye drops is non-allergic in nature and is safe in usage.

It functions by interfering with the entry of sodium ions into the nerve cells thereby reducing the ability of sensation.

COMPOSITION: w/v
  • Amethocaine HCl BP 0.5%
  • Benzalkonium Chloride BP 0.01%
  • (Not as Separate Point)
  • Aqueous base: q s
Mechanism of action:
  • Amthocaine hydrochloride is used as a local anesthetic which acts by reversibly blocking the propagation and conduction of nerve impulses along nerve axons. Amethocaine stabilizes the nerve membrane, preventing the increase in sodium permeability necessary for the production of an action potential.
Indication:
  • Ocular anesthetic for topical instillation into the conjuctival sac
Contraindications:
  • Not to be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to the product. Amethocaine is hydrolyzed in the body to p-amino-benzoic acid and should not therefore be used in patients being treated with sulphonamides. In view of the immaturity of the enzyme system which metabolises the ester type local anesthetics in premature babies, amethocaine should be avoided in these patients.
Adverse effects:
  • Amethocaine may give rise to dermatitis in hypersensitive patients. On instillation an initial burning sensation may be experienced. This may last for upto 30 seconds. Corneal disorders such a superficial punctuate keratitis or edema may be observed following short-term application of amethocaine eye drops for topical anesthesia. The cornea may be damaged by prolonged application of eye drops.
Dosage administration:
  • Adults children - one drop or as required.
Warning precautions:
  • To avoid contamination do not touch tip of container to any surface. Replace cap after using. The anesthetized eye should be protected from dust and bacterial contamination. The cornea may be damaged by prolonged application of anesthetic eye drops. Systemic absorption may be reduced by compressing the lacrimal sac at the medial canthus for a minute during and following the instillation of the drops. (This blocks the passage of the drops via the naso-lacrimal duct to the wide absorptive area of the nasal and pharyngeal mucosa. It is especially advisable in children.)
Storage:
  • Keep in cool dark place
  • Keep out of reach of children
Presentation:
  • Amethocaine eye drops are available in sterile plastic bottle of 5 mL.
